It all started with Gareth Martin who put the club together after winning the monochrome award in the Welsh Salon for the second time, inspiring him to subscribe to "Black and White Photography" magazine. This influenced him in April 2010 to arrange a meeting and, on the first night, some 20 like-minded photographers turned up.Hence the birth of Cymru Monochrome.
It is a very friendly and welcoming club with its prime objective to share knowledge in the art and technique of monochrome photography. It is perhaps unique within the WPF membership.
Although Cymru Monochrome is a relatively new club, there is nevertheless a wealth of knowledge and experience within the growing membership, this knowledge and experience (specific to monochrome photography), is based on traditional dark room technique as well as digital technology.
The club meets on the 3rd Monday of each month, endeavouring to invite distinguished workers and presenters in the medium of Black and White photography.
Several competitions are entered with members' best work chosen to represent Cymru Monochrome.
Each year, we run Only Mono. This is, we believe, the biggest inter-club competition for monochrome prints in the UK and, possibly, in the world.
There is so much going on. It is different each meeting. As long as you bring your sense of humour and a passion for Black and White photography, YOU will fit in well.
